Chapter 3: It's fast and furious, and a Blogger!

Hey peeps! Are you ready? Let's go Va-Va Vroom this week with blogger Miss Cheryl Tay!

Consultant, Journalist, Photographer, Blogger, Copywriter and Public relations. Singapore’s only female motoring journalist and motorsports blogger, race driver and race queen, Miss Chery Tay

Independent automotive consultant and prominent local motorsports personality Cheryl Tay is uniquely passionate about all things cars and motorsports. She also has a strong passion to share her interest and knowledge, hence having a dream to become the ‘Oprah Winfrey' of cars and motorsports’ and create a multimedia platform for her sharing.

A female in a male-dominated world, Cheryl is Singapore’s only female full-time motoring journalist and motorsports blogger and she regularly writes for prominent titles in Singapore, Asia and internationally.

Through her line of work, she has rubbed shoulders with world champion drivers such as Mika Hakkinen and Sebastian Vettel, as well as other key personalities of the motoring world including car designers, race engineers, team principals and CEOs of car manufacturers.

Cheryl reviews new cars, checks out modified cars, runs the halls of international motor shows, breathes in the tyre dust from karting to drifting to circuit racing to Formula 1 and juggles between her pen, her laptop and her camera to share through her photos and words.

With an aim to reach out to a greater motoring audience (especially to get more ladies into the driver’s seat), Cheryl actively engages in initiatives to educate the public about motoring and motorsports the right way. For example, she created Ladies’ Night @Kartright, an introductory karting course for females only, and was also the captain and founder of Singapore’s only all-female karting team in 2011.

In pursuit of her vision to increase the awareness and interest of cars and motorsports, her hard work was recognised and in 2011 she became the first and only Singaporean to be inducted into the prestigious Guild of Motoring Writers (UK). She was also invited to become a member of the British Women Racing Driver Club and is currently the youngest member of the Women Motor & Sport Commission in Singapore.

On a fine Saturday morning, while others may still be in their slumbers, the Liefies met well-known blogger, Miss Cheryl Tay. The rendezvous point was at a Starbucks in Siglap area.  It was rough at the beginning as, you know, we were shy and nervous. After all, we were interviewing someone with fame! Anylief, the Liefies interviewed Miss Cheryl about her life. Fortunately, Miss Cheryl was kind enough to share with us her personal experiences and lifestyle. One important thing she mentioned was that her main marketing strategy is social media and no one should ever underestimate the power of it. During the interview, we manage to learn a thing or two about Miss Cheryl as well; Miss Cheryl is a huge fan of the colour pink and Hello Kitty. Not only that, Miss Cheryl actively engage in adventurous activities such as rock climbing and bungee jumps.

The crew could tell that Miss Cheryl is passionate and enjoys what she is doing. Despite being well-known, Miss Cheryl is actually a humble, humorous and friendly person. On behalf of everyone at the Lief blog, we would like to express our utmost gratitude for Miss Cheryl Tay's time, and the offer for a ride home!
